Abstract

Anti-colonialist aspiration is evident in the poetry of Al Mahmud and Seamus Heaney. Six poems (three from Al Mahmud and three from Seamus Heaney) have been selected to show how the poets react to the negative effects of colonialism / neocolonialism, how they read the history of the colonial past of their nation, how they read their own national past and reclaim that past.
